Terms of Service
Effective date: 1 September 2026
The terms governing use of the Alliance for Police Accountability website and its donation service.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of this website and the donation service provided by Alliance for Police Accountability ("APA", "we", "us" or "our").
By using the website, submitting a contact form or starting a donation, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the relevant service.
1. About APA
Alliance for Police Accountability is a UK civil-society organisation working to build Black community power and democratic police accountability through independent, community-led scrutiny. You can contact us at info@theapa.uk.
APA's legal form and registered details will be added to these Terms when finalised.
2. Using the website
You may use the website for lawful personal, community, educational, research and organisational purposes. You must not misuse it or interfere with its availability, security or operation.
Do not attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website, its server, accounts or connected services.
Do not introduce malware, make abusive automated requests, evade security controls or use the website to facilitate unlawful activity.
Do not submit information that you do not have the right to provide, impersonate another person or knowingly provide materially false information.
Do not reproduce or exploit substantial website content commercially without permission unless the law allows it.
3. Information and publications
We aim to keep website information accurate and useful, but policing policy, law, events, personnel and organisational programmes can change. Unless expressly stated otherwise, website content is general information and does not constitute legal, financial, safeguarding or other professional advice.
You should obtain appropriate professional advice before acting on information where the consequences could be significant. Historical publications may reflect the information and context available when they were produced.
4. Donations
The website currently accepts one-off donations in pounds sterling. You choose the amount before being redirected to Stripe's hosted Checkout page. A donation is complete only when Stripe confirms successful payment.
By submitting a donation, you confirm that you are at least 18 or have the payment-method holder's permission and lawful authority, that the payment information is accurate, and that you authorise the stated amount to be charged.
A donation does not purchase goods or services, create membership, give control over APA's decisions or entitle the donor to a particular outcome. Unless a specific restricted appeal expressly says otherwise, APA may apply donations to its work and operating needs in support of its stated mission.
The current flow does not create recurring payments and does not collect Gift Aid declarations. We do not promise that a donation qualifies for tax relief. Seek independent advice if tax treatment matters to you.
5. Payment methods and Stripe
Payments are processed by Stripe. The intended options are card, Apple Pay and Google Pay, but wallet availability depends on Stripe, your device, browser, location, account settings and the payment method you have configured. We cannot guarantee that every wallet will appear for every donor.
Stripe and other payment participants may apply their own terms, privacy notices, authentication, fraud checks and transaction limits. APA does not receive your full card number or security code from the hosted Checkout page.
6. Mistakes, refunds and unauthorised payments
Please check the amount before paying. If you believe a donation was made by mistake, duplicated or unauthorised, contact info@theapa.uk promptly with the date, amount and Stripe receipt or payment reference. Do not send full card details.
Completed donations are generally treated as final, but we will review refund requests fairly, taking account of the circumstances, the status and use of the funds, payment-provider rules and applicable law. Nothing in these Terms limits any refund, chargeback or other right that the law gives you.
Approved refunds will normally be returned through Stripe to the original payment method. Timing is controlled by Stripe, banks and card or wallet providers.
7. Contact-form submissions
You are responsible for the information you send through the contact form. Do not submit unlawful, threatening, abusive, defamatory or malicious material, confidential information you are not authorised to disclose, or full payment-card details.
Submitting a message does not create a professional, advisory, employment, funding or partnership relationship. We may decide how and whether to respond, although we aim to handle genuine enquiries appropriately.
8. Intellectual property
Unless otherwise stated, APA or its licensors owns the intellectual-property rights in the website's design, branding, original text, graphics and other materials. Third-party names, images and materials remain the property of their respective owners.
You may view, download and print reasonable extracts for personal, non-commercial, educational or community use, provided you preserve attribution and do not misrepresent, materially alter or imply APA endorsement. Other reproduction, adaptation or commercial use requires prior written permission unless permitted by law.
9. Third-party links and services
The website may link to websites, documents or services operated by others. Links are provided for convenience or context and do not necessarily mean that APA endorses everything on the linked service. We do not control third-party availability, security, content or privacy practices, and their terms may apply when you use them.
10. Website availability
We may update, suspend, withdraw or restrict any part of the website for maintenance, security, legal, organisational or operational reasons. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability, or that every file or feature will always remain available.
11. Our responsibility
Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or your mandatory statutory rights.
Subject to that protection, APA is not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable, for indirect or consequential loss, for loss caused by events outside our reasonable control, or for reliance on general website information as a substitute for appropriate professional advice.
If you use the website for business or professional purposes, APA is not liable, to the extent permitted by law, for loss of profit, revenue, business, opportunity, anticipated savings, goodwill or data arising from that use.
12. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information connected with the website, contact form and donations. It forms part of the information governing your use of these services.
Read the Privacy Policy13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms when the organisation, website, donation arrangements or law changes. The updated Terms apply from the effective date shown on this page. Changes do not retrospectively remove rights that have already arisen under applicable law.
14. Severability and waiver
If a court or competent authority finds part of these Terms unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining parts continue to apply. A delay or failure by APA to enforce a provision does not waive the right to enforce it later.
15. Governing law and courts
These Terms and disputes connected with them are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, but if you are a consumer living elsewhere, any mandatory rights you have to rely on your local law or courts are unaffected.
16. Contact
Questions about these Terms, donation errors or permission to reuse content can be sent to info@theapa.uk.
